A momentary panic spread over the city of Ahmedabad on Wednesday when three well-known schools got bomb threat emails, which lead to the city police taking quick action. As the first step, children were sent home and bomb disposal squads, dog teams, and local police were all present to check the buildings bit by bit.
Officials stated that the institutions mentioned in the emails were Maharaja Agrasen School, Zydus School for Excellence, and Zebra School. The emails arrived at the beginning of the day, after which authorities quickly set in motion the emergency safety protocols.
Police on High Alert, Investigations Underway
Sharad Singhal, the Joint Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad, reported that different police squads had already been sent to the schools. In an interview with the press, Vastrapur Police Inspector L. L. Chavda mentioned that children were sent home for the day to prevent any panic during the inspections.
"Today a few schools received bomb threats through email. As a safety measure, students were sent home. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad together with the Dog Squad is conducting the investigation," Chavda said.
Up till now, nothing that could be called suspicious has been discovered, and the authorities are taking the whole matter as very serious indeed. Also, the cybercrime units are trying to find out the source of the threatening emails.
Similar Threats Earlier Proved Hoax
Police sources mentioned that similar bomb threats were sent to schools in Amritsar on December 12, which turned out to be false after thorough anti-sabotage checks were made. Nevertheless, law enforcement still considers the case of a threat being real unless proven otherwise.
Parents Urged to Stay Calm
Parents and residents have been advised to remain calm and only get information from the police authorities through official channels. The security around schools and students in Ahmedabad has been made tighter for a while as a precautionary measure.
